Crown & Bridges

Crown: A crown, also known as a dental cap, is a tooth-shaped prosthetic device that covers the entire tooth, replacing its outer layer of enamel with a new material. A crown is contoured and sized similarly to a natural tooth, and it makes normal contact with the opposing tooth, allowing food to be chewed properly. In general, a crown should feel like a regular tooth when it comes to function. It is typically made of materials such as porcelain, ceramic, metal, or a combination of materials.

A crown may be recommended by a dentist to protect a weakened tooth, repair a broken or cracked tooth, restore a tooth after a root canal treatment, or improve the appearance of a discoloured or misshapen tooth. The process of getting a crown usually involves preparing the tooth by removing a portion of its outer layer, taking an impression of the tooth, and having the crown fabricated in a dental laboratory. Once ready, the crown is cemented onto the tooth using dental adhesive.

Bridge: A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth, when functioning teeth are available on both sides of the missing tooth. It is typically made of materials such as porcelain, ceramic, or metal and is custom-made to match the colour and shape of the surrounding teeth.

A bridge is recommended when a person has one or more missing teeth, which can cause problems such as shifting of the remaining teeth or difficulty chewing or speaking. The process of getting a bridge usually involves preparing the adjacent teeth by removing a portion of their outer layer, taking an impression of the teeth, and having the bridge fabricated in a dental laboratory.

Benefit of a Bridge: A bridge is a quick way to replace one or two missing teeth. It does not require any surgery.
